Were I Mr. Lockwood

when at last the closing chapter rang upon my tongue
the sun shone once again upon the moor
and whom was feared the most
some claim returned a ghost
leaving me to separate the fact from the lore

chorus:
but I was so pleased to see a smile
where terror reigned for such a long while
the only decree that occurred me was mercy

shutters let the light of morning bathe the walls again
for love and peace are welcomed here at last
unlock the door and gate
but harbor not the hate
dead bury your dead and past consume the past

chorus

perhaps it was just weariness with all the treachery
instead of pure white love I found inside
but oh the grace that flooded every part of me
was all for certain that which turned the tide

chorus
