Captive Heart

a heart lay captive
a heart lay wounded and afraid
far away in time in one cruel action it was made
but this heart lay beating still

in search of freedom
in search of shelter to be warmed
out of nowhere came a spark and then new hope was formed
and this heart lay beating still

came a fine day when hope did step aside
and joy stood in its place
love was rumored to be clearly written on the face
in a fell swoop that heart was swept away
by love pure and divine
it was stolen unaware was taken by design

within one moment
within one sheer defining deed
death was banished once for all and captive hearts were freed
and this heart lives beating still
and many hearts live beating still
