Alligator Bait

I remember that day
when Daddy lost his job
we were dirt poor (poor dirt)
and didn't have any food
Daddy looked at me with that evil eye
I knew immediately what he thought
he grabbed me by the arm
and headed out the door

chorus

Daddy threw me in the boat
and started up that old Mercury
and he headed acrost the swamp (muddy swamp)
he tied a rope around my leg
and threw me in the drink
he pulled me slowly
where the alligator lived
I thought my life was over
till something pulled me in

chorus

I bet you thought Daddy had a change of heart
well that just wasn't the case
cause Daddy knew if he lost me
that nobody would do the chores

chorus
